The BooneDox KT-Kayak trailer can haul more than just kayaks. At first, trailers that have kayak holders built-in might seem attractive, and if you need to carry more than three kayaks, it might be the only choice. However, with the KT-Kayak Trailer, you can haul anything you can strap to it. Just place the J-Cradles (sold separately here) and place your kayak, fishing gear, chairs, coolers, tents, and grills etc. anywhere you want.

The BooneDox team doesn't just design and sell kayak gear, they use kayak gear. That's why the KT-Trailer has features built-in that you just don't find on most kayak haulers.

Start with the high-quality Dexter Torflex axle:  Here's how Dexter explains it: "The Torflex suspension system is a torsion arm type suspension which is completely self contained within the axle tube. It attaches directly to the trailer frame using brackets which are an integral part of the axle assembly. The Torflex axle provides improved suspension characteristics relative to leaf spring axles through the unique arrangement of a steel torsion bar surrounded by four rubber cords encased in the main structural member of the axle beam. The hub spindle is attached to a lever, called the torsion arm, which is fastened to the rubber encased bar. As load is applied, the bar rotates causing a rolling/compressive resistance in the rubber cords. This rotating action provides the same functionality as conventional sprung axles with several operating advantages including independent suspension." Essentially, you have a semi-independent suspension that reduces jarring to the trailer and its load. A bump encountered by one wheel isn't transferred in full force to the other. Straps stay tighter, longer and boxed contents are bounced around a little less.

Wider Tires:  Enhancing the smoothing action the Torflex axle provides even further are the larger than average tires. The tires are mounted to galvanized steel, 5-lug, 10" diameter wheels, and at first, the wheels may seem small in comparison to some competitors 12" wheels, but let's look at the logic behind this. Since the overall height of the wheel with the tire mounted is equal to most of the competition at 20", it means there is more tire sidewall height. The KT's wheels are also wider to accommodate the wider tires. Taller sidewalls mean there's more flex when running over bumps, in turn, further cushioning the cargo and the wider wheel and tire combination means better tracking and less trailer sway while towing.

Construction of high-quality, aircraft-grade aluminum: It's more expensive than steel, so why do it? The aluminum that BooneDox uses does not rust. Galvanizing does protect steel, but it is a coating, which means if it's thinner in some areas or disturbed by hole-drilling or cutting, that area will be prone to rust. Also, considering the trailer will often be partially submerged in the water there's no doubt some will collect and stay in certain areas, again, making those spots rust. Of course, the apparent advantage of aluminum is lighter weight. A lighter trailer means more weight in cargo before the trailer limits or vehicle limits are breached.
